Deliverables

  • The True: When working with the true I turned to peer-reviewed articles and conferences published in the fields of Design, Computer science and Interaction Design. My goal was to get a better understanding of the evolution of AR, but also where the science within the field stands today.
  • To begin with, I was amazed at how many scientific articles and studies have been conducted using AR. However, many of the articles focused on medical research and learning, which was not particularly relevant to my area of focus. I was expecting a more limited supply of scientific articles given my search filters.
  • Both articles have contributed to me having a greater self-confidence in my concept, partly because it feels more feasible after reading about similar examples, partly because my idea feels completely unique in comparison with the existing research that I could identify during my literature study.
  • One article in particular, "Applications of virtual and augmented reality in infectious disease epidemics with a focus on the COVID-19 outbreak", by Asadzadeh, A., Samad-Soltani, T., Rezaei-Hachesu, P. (2021), confirmed to me that AR can be used for the purpose of dealing with emergencies in pandemic outbreaks, which is the problem area that my concept focuses on. The research shows that technology has the potential to mitigate the negative societal effects that pandemics cause, which is an issue that I myself have carried with me. As previously mentioned, I have faced an ethical dilemma regarding whether the concept contributes to "goodness" and societal benefit for users, and through my interpretation of that article, I would now say that the concept has good potential for it.

  • The Ideal: The ideal is about being the ideal designer making the ideal design for the client and the users. I intend to include as many relevant points of view and angles as possible in my design process. For me, the core of everything I do is user-centric design, which should preferably include user tests and other feedback from different types of users. I believe it's valuable to include stakeholders in your design process as they are usually the one who knows the product and its purpose best. Much like the symbol for service design above, I strive to achieve a balance in my work with the customer and the users.
